Rogue – The Shadowy Figure
The Rogue is one of the 10 playable classes in the World of Warcraft. A Rogue wields melee weapons and can dish out loads of damage by using special abilities. Most of the attacks a Rogue can make consume an amount of Energy. An Energy bar which shows the available amount of Energy can be found under the hit point bar of the player. A Rogue can have a maximum of 100 Energy even though there is a talent which increases this.
As an Alliance players you will be able to make a Gnome, Dwarf, Human and Night Elf Rogue and as a Horde player you will be able to choose between the Orc, Troll, Blood Elf and Undead races. A Rogue is commonly known for his skills to ‘gank’ other players, which basically means killing players of the other factions on either the battlegrounds or in the arena’s or in PvP areas. Because they can stealth they have an advantage over their enemies. Once in stealth a series of attacks becomes available followed by a series of attacks that become available once they are visible. The Rogue’s attacks usually award him with combo points which are applied on their target. A total of 5 combo points can be applied on a target. The combo points have use because the Rogue also has finishing moves that are stronger if more combo points are applied on the target. If you have 5 combo points on a target you will deal more damage or stun longer in example, than when a target only has one combo point on it.
Let it be clear that Rogues can’t heal and can’t tank. They are designed to do loads of damage though. If you want to be on top of the damage list you should know the class well. You will need to know the ins and outs of the class though, including the talent builds. You should know which talent tree is made with what purpose and which talent points you can avoid and which should definitely be taken. Subtlety, Assassination, and Combat are the names of the three talent trees that are available for the Rogue. For more information on WoW class guides, read our review: Warcraft Pros
The talent tree that is best for leveling is definitely the Combat talent tree. The Combat talent tree will provide the Rogue with talents which make him harder to kill and he will also obtain attacks that will boost his damage like Ghost Strike. Because the Rogue will get more Parry and Dodge rating he will lose less health and because it also boost the offhand damage and crit and hit rating leveling becomes much easier.
As you gain levels, and especially when you reach the level cap, the Assassination tree becomes a more viable option. The Assassination tree specializes in Backstab and other powerful attacks. For those of you who like to play PvE it is a great build that especially focuses on the Backstab attack. Because you need to be behind the target for this attack it is usually not good for single players.
If you have an enemy that is turned towards the tank however, you can attack the target from behind and spam your attacks to make amazing amounts of damage. If you like to play PvP you should try out the Subtlety talent tree. With it you will get access to talents that will allow you to do a lot of burst damage. The build isn’t suited for PvP because you will lack damage on longer fights.
